Both BrightHire and Tenzo sell to the same buyer: a talent acquisition leader trying to make interviews more consistent, better documented, and less dependent on any one interviewer’s memory. They just attack that problem from opposite ends of the funnel. BrightHire makes the interviews your hiring managers already run better after the fact, recorded, transcribed, scored, and coachable. Tenzo’s AI recruiter, Morgan, runs the top-of-funnel interview itself, so your team reviews a completed, screened, fraud-checked candidate before a human ever gets on a call.

Who’s Actually on the Call

BrightHire’s foundation, and still the product it’s best known for, is an interview intelligence layer that lives inside Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams. It records and transcribes the conversation a human interviewer is already having, generates AI notes, auto-fills scorecards, and cuts highlight reels so hiring teams can compare candidates without rewatching full calls. The interviewer is still a person. BrightHire just makes that person’s work easier to review later.

BrightHire Screen, the company’s newer AI interviewer, changes that math for first-round screens specifically. Candidates respond by voice or video, on their own time, to a fixed set of questions, and the system scores and ranks them against a rubric. It’s BrightHire’s first major expansion beyond their core notetaker.

Morgan, Tenzo’s AI Recruiter, starts from the opposite assumption: no human needs to be on the initial screen at all. It conducts structured, voice-first interviews around the clock, over phone, WhatsApp, video, or email, in 40+ languages. Recruiters who still want AI help on their own live calls get it too, through a different Tenzo agent: the Recruiter Co-Pilot. Tenzo’s Recruiter Co-Pilot takes notes, fills in scorecards, and such just like BrightHire’s notetaker, but it’s a true Co-Pilot: during human-led interviews, it’s actively coaching and guiding the interviewer to improve their craft, ask better follow-up questions, and stay on track.

It leads to a massive gap in terms of impact. BrightHire’s core product is a record-and-review tool. It captures an interview that already happened and turns it into a transcript, a scorecard, and a highlight reel that a hiring team studies afterward. Tenzo’s Recruiter Co-Pilot runs on the opposite clock. It works live, during the call, prompting the interviewer to ask a sharper follow-up question in the moment, flagging language that reads as biased as soon as it comes up, and keeping the conversation locked to a structured, consistent format instead of drifting off-script. BrightHire tells you how an interview went after it’s over. Tenzo actively improves how the interview goes while it’s happening.

Stopping Fraud Before It Reaches a Human

Proxy candidates, deepfaked video, AI-coached answers: interview fraud has gotten common enough that BrightHire built a dedicated Candidate Fraud product to deal with it. BrightHire’s Candidate Fraud product monitors for impersonation and identity inconsistencies across behavioral, device, and contextual signals. It leans on Zoom’s proprietary models for deepfake detection specifically, and it routes flags to human reviewers rather than auto-rejecting anyone. However, it’s reliant on interviewers using Zoom and is still in pilot.

Tenzo built fraud detection into Morgan’s interviews on every channel it runs, using 40+ signals to catch proxy interviewing, deepfakes, and stolen identities without leaning on any video vendor’s detection stack. Morgan is already conducting the interview, so verification happens inside that same conversation instead of as a separate layer stitched onto a recording afterward. Plus, with Tenzo, candidates can be flagged as potential fraud concerns just from their initial application, without waiting to waste interviewer time on a call.

If fraud detection is a driving reason you’re evaluating either platform, our breakdown of how to detect fake candidates covers the signal types worth asking any vendor about.

Who Owns the Calendar

BrightHire Screen cuts out scheduling friction for first-round AI screens: candidates complete async voice or video screens whenever it suits them, triggered automatically by ATS stage changes. But it doesn’t touch the rest of the calendar: the panels and hiring-manager interviews that still get scheduled and run the old-fashioned way.

Morgan handles that coordination as part of the same workflow that screens candidates, syncing calendars between candidates and hiring teams without a recruiter chasing anyone down.

Mining Your ATS

Tenzo goes beyond just working with the applicants companies provide. Tenzo actively mines a company’s own ATS database to resurface previously screened candidates for new roles, a rediscovery capability nothing in BrightHire’s current lineup offers. Put screening, scheduling, and rediscovery into one motion and the time-to-hire math changes without adding headcount. Our post on standardizing interviews to multiply recruiter capacity goes deeper on why consistency at the top of funnel compounds downstream.

ATS Reach, Languages, and Compliance

BrightHire calls itself the owner of “the deepest ATS integrations, period.” Given the number of manual clicks required to actually get a summary or note to show up in the ATS, this doesn’t quite add up. When it comes to languages, BrightHire’s AI Screen can only conduct English interviews as of the time of this article’s writing, although one could expect they will add more to keep relevance with the rest of the pack.

Tenzo connects to 57+ ATS platforms, including Greenhouse, Lever, Workday, iCIMS, SAP SuccessFactors, Bullhorn, Avionté, and Ashby, sitting on top of whatever system a company already runs rather than asking anyone to switch. And Morgan interviews in 40+ languages out of the box.

Both companies clearly take compliance seriously, if from different angles. BrightHire is SOC 2 Type II certified, GDPR/CCPA compliant, and has put BrightHire Screen through an independent AI bias audit. Tenzo carries the same SOC 2 Type II and GDPR certifications, then adds a de-biasing layer that strips protected-class information out of transcripts, plus a contestability model: candidates are scored only on what they actually say or submit, never on scraped web profiles, and can see and challenge how they were evaluated. If AI hiring compliance is a live concern for your legal or people team, our AI hiring governance framework walks through what to ask any vendor about.

The Verdict

If your interview process already works and the problem is that nobody remembers what a candidate actually said three weeks after the call, BrightHire does that job well. It’s mature, deeply wired into major ATS platforms, and effective at making a hiring manager’s judgment visible and consistent across candidates.

The calculation looks different if your bottleneck sits earlier than that. A pile of resumes nobody has time to screen. Scheduling threads that eat a recruiter’s week. First-round interviews that only happen when a human is free to run them. Morgan takes the human out of that first round entirely, checks for fraud on every channel it operates on rather than one, coordinates its own calendar, and can pull candidates who already interviewed for a different role back out of your ATS. Tenzo’s 57+ ATS integrations mean none of that requires ripping out what you already use.

The question is which end of the funnel is actually costing you time.

The Better Test Is a Live One

Reading about interview platforms only tells you so much. If you’re weighing BrightHire against something built to own more of the top-of-funnel, watch Morgan run an actual screening interview. Book a demo with Tenzo and we’ll show you how it fits alongside, or replaces, whatever’s already in your stack.
